Summer Reading

Tonight was the first night my daughter read her bedtime story to me. Her selection was, "Martha Doesn't Say Sorry." I have to admit, it was a wonderful feeling being read to by a child who isn't in Kindergarten yet. She is 5 years old and is finishing up her final year in Pre-K and will be "stepping up" to Kindergarten in the Fall. My husband and I read to our children every night. Even if we are asked to read the same old story night after night after night. We still read it. Does reading to your child help them read? We think it does. Our youngest who will be 3 in a few weeks is reading a little bit too. He's reading much earlier than either of his parents so yes, we are very pleased that both our children are reading at their current age.

This week, registration begins for the library's Summer Reading Club. Last year, it was totally my fault that my children didn't finish the program. I felt so bad when we went to hand in the form which listed the books read during the summer. Apparently, we were supposed to check in every week to collect a prize and I simply didn't keep up with it. Again, totally my fault. This time I'm on it. I can't disappoint my child again this year. Our children need parental support in order to achieve success. I look forward to blogging about the prizes won at the end of the program even if they are little rubber ducks like last year which my daughter adores.
