Register Now for Free Pre-School @ North H.S.

Parents living within and teachers employed by the Valley Stream Central High School District are invited to register for the 19th annual free preschool program at North High School.
This program is offered by students in the Education 101 class under the supervision of Jennifer Kehoe, head of the Career & Technical Education Department. The program, open to children ages 3-5, will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays in January 2013 (Jan. 3, 8, 10, 15 and 17), from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
The theme for the pre-school sessions planned by the students will revolve around children’s books, with the games, crafts and activities all keyed to the book of the day. Space is limited.
To register, please call Mrs. Kehoe at (516) 564-5580.
*This program is highly recommended. My son attended this program last year and enjoyed it. Not to mention the female students fell in love with him. He's a charmer. Who wouldn't fall in love with him?

| Education 101 Students at North High with My Preschooler |
The children were given "homework" and were asked to wear their favorite color, bring in a photo of their favorite food, favorite animal, a family photo and on the last day were invited to wear their favorite pair of mittens, gloves, or hat. Unfortunately my son fell ill with a respiratory virus and missed two of the classes. When he returned, he was greeted with open arms from all of the students which made both of us feel really good.
In addition to the "homework" assignments, the preschoolers pledged allegiance to the flag each day, learned about color recognition, what makes mammals special, made animal themed cupcakes, learned about body parts and what they do, and learned about winter activities.
Although we missed 2 of the 5 sessions, I truly enjoyed this program as did my son. The program was well organized and parents received a letter of introduction and course outline weeks before the program began. The students were delightful, exhibited professionalism, and visibly adored all of the children. The class hours were from 9:30 a.m. - 11:25 a.m. which gave me just enough time to come home, take care of few things and hustle back for pick up. Did I mention it fit right into my budget of free? Great job Mrs. Kehoe and the students of Education 101.

South High Presents "Once Upon A Mattress"
There's nothing like community theater and tonight, South High School's adaptation of "Once Upon A Mattress" opens it's curtains to the community at 7 p.m. in South Hall. I have never seen the play and unfortunately won't make tonight's performance as I prepare for the "Wear it Again" Costume Party tomorrow, but here's a brief description of the performance I found here.
Once Upon a Mattress was written and composed in 1959; its Broadway debut is what made Carol Burnett, as Winnifred, famous. The musical is a farce that takes place in the 1400's in an imaginary Kingdom.
The story is narrated by a Minstrel, who tells us that the tale of the "Princess and the Pea" is not quite like what all of us were led to believe. He tells the real story: By decree of the tyrant Queen, no one in the Kingdom is allowed to get married until a suitable wife if found for the young prince, Dauntless. But the Queen, for various reasons, does not want Dauntless to be married. For each princess candidate, she and the court Wizard devise impossible tests--tests to see if each Princess is good enough for her boy.
As a mother of a son, there probably won't ever be a girl good enough for my son. I'm siding with the Queen, but we all know how this story ends.
Today's Question: What's your favorite fairytale?
