Once Upon A Sundae Celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Boy, has my daughter been waiting for THIS event. Ever since my son and I attended last week's Pirate themed event, and he told her, I have been asked daily when we were going back. Just announced this morning on Facebook, that where will be 3 story time sessions this week. It is totally worth it. Last week, the pint-sized pirates were given a coloring sheet, read a Pirate story, created a treasure chest WITH coins, fake of course, AND made their own sundae complete with EVERY topping possible.

Today's Library Events & More

In order to clean up the site a little bit, the Library link is now on the Navigation Bar at the top of the page for easier access.  In addition, I have added links to other nearby libraries.  I have found that many area libraries allow residents from neighboring communities to participate in their programs two days before the scheduled event.  The Valley Stream Library has a few events scheduled for Wednesday, December 28th that are worth checking out.  Enjoy!

Alphabet Soup
Time: 11 a.m.
Ages 3 - 5 years old

Circle Games
Time: 2 p.m.
Grades K - 2

Kwanzaa Craft

Registration is required.

Children's Safari is also hosting a superhero themed event.  There are no details on their website, but there is information on their FB page. I may attend just to see if the games have been repaired.  I really hope they have been.

Oceanside Bounce U has a great line up of open bounce times you can find here.

Don't forget about yesterday's post that lists all of Rockville Centre Recreation's Winter Break events for kids.

Roll Around At Rockville Centre Recreation

Today, I took two munchkins to Rockville Centre Recreation's Roll Around program.  My son and I have been going ever since the middle of September and today, we decided to make a play date out of it.  During the day, you will find a much younger crowd with the oldest being about 3.5 (my child) and the others are a mixed crowd of new and somewhat seasoned walkers.   The room is filled with soft obstacle course type toys (find definition) that you would find at a gymnastics gymnasium.  Mats are everywhere so if one tumbles from running too fast or jumping off of the bouncy, chances are a boo boo won't follow.
The staff of one to approximately 40 kids is okay because mommies, daddies, and nannies are encouraged to join in, or stand around and wait until needed which is what I do most times.  Well, today I actively participated by chasing two 3 year olds around while being complimented on how well my twins play together.  Wait, what?  If you're going to read a book or catch up on email while your tot plays, this isn't the place for you.  I take reading material every time I go and have yet to read it.

I do have one soft criticism and suggestion.  Although optional, I think all kids and parents should take their shoes off.  I say this because the crawlers are crawling and the new walkers are always falling and touching the floor with their little hands.  I also suggest that a hand sanitizer dispenser be placed inside/outside the room for immediate use going in and coming out of the play area.  This could also be used for the basketball players when Roll Around is all rolled up for the day.

I paid $90 for a punch card with 10 sessions during the Fall session, giving me a discount of $10, but I see they have reduced the rate to 10 for $80.  Sounds like it's a pretty successful program they have going.  I do admit that going EVERY week was a bit much for me as I do appreciate variety so you may want to buy a 5 pack card.  However, my tot didn't complain at all.  Roll Around at the Rec is definitely Kid friendly.  Mother approved.

Cure for a Rainy Day Play Date

Part 2: After my youngest and I left the children's museum, we picked up my eldest child from pre-k, we immediately went on another playdate. I know it was crazy being that my youngest and I had just left the LI Children's Museum less than an hour before, but you do what you have to do to keep your kids happy and tired so they fall asleep easily at night.

We headed over to McDonald's in Oceanside where they have both a party room for birthday parties, and an indoor playspace. A rainy afternoon was inevitable so we didn't want to take a chance at going to the park. This restauranthas an indoor jungle gym complete with slide that the kids love! The photo to the right is not the actual structure at Oceanside but it's pretty close. Another ideal feature is that parents can sit either in the playspace with their children or on the other side of the glass wall munching on the healthy menu McDonald's offers while chatting. Please note sarcasm.
