My family and I recently had dinner at Chicken Coop, Valley Stream's newest and only Columbian restaurant. The prices are low and the portions are high, and the service is friendly. The restaurant is very clean and filled with the aroma of Pollos a la Brasa, Rotisserie Chicken. One of the waiters is a little flirtatious taking his tip in the form of cash and a smooch on the cheek, I wasn't offended but taken off guard just a bit. He was very entertaining and the kids loved him. The restaurant has only been open just under a year. They are open to hosting events and were really easy to work with when I asked if I could host one.
Where else can you get a meal with this much food for just $5.00? ½ POLLO A LA BRASA COOP½ typical Chicken Coop. (Fries/salad not included)
For the health conscious, PECHUGA DE POLLO A LA PARRILLA: Arroz, frijoles, ensalada y maduro. Grilled Chicken Breast, rice, beans, sald and sweet plantain. $12.50
In addition to the delicious food (my husband had the steak, kids had the chicken fingers, and I forgot to order as I was hosting an event at the same time but I did nibble on everyone else food), every Wednesday evening is Karaoke Night. The host was about 20 minutes behind in setting up but once everything was set up, things started moving along. What makes this place kid friendly in addition to the chicken fingers and fries, is that they allowed the kids to sing acapella into the mic. They didn't have children's songs such as the requested Little Mermaid, etc. but they did have the Chicken Dance song which went over very well. A few of the kids also honored us with their acapella version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
All in all, we had a great evening and the steady flow of patrons proves that Chicken Coop is here to stay.
