Summer Reading Registration Begins

School is almost out, but in our house that doesn't mean children should stop learning.  I've been sitting on a post about our son reading at the early age of 3 years old, which totally blew us away, but I'm pretty sure reading to him from birth had something to do with it.  I'll share this info with you this week.  Back to this post - In addition to sending our children to Hofstra Saturday Classes for Kids, we are also signing them up for the library's Summer Reading Program.  Registration begins today with the official program beginning June 25th.

I strongly encourage all children to participate.  In addition to exposing your child to reading and developing healthy habits, increased knowledge and vocabulary, the library also awards children with little trinkets during weekly check-ins at the end of the program.  Last year, those who completed their weekly tasks were given a goody bag filled with gift certificates to local restaurants and even included a week of FREE martial arts training.  How awesome is that?!  Last year, Ronald McDonald himself attended the closing ceremony, which did not sit well with my son, but we had fun.

If you don't live in Valley Stream, check with your local library to see when their summer reading programs begins.  You can find a link to your community library here.
