Kid's Shoe Stores

We're in the home stretch.  The start to school is just 30 days away and we're all searching for school supplies, uniforms, lunch boxes, and back packs.  Most importantly, I'm searching for shoes.

When we lived in Brooklyn, kiddie shoe stores were everywhere. Brooklyn has some of THE best children's shoe stores with brands I had never even heard of before we had our first.  But we're not in Brooklyn anymore and I have no reason to go there.  For now.

So where are the shoe stores here in our area outside of Green Acres Mall which has Children's Place, Payless, JcPenny, Macy's and Sears?   If you're looking for good shoes, I suggest the following places:

Famous Footwear
Green Acres Mall - Valley Stream
*What?  I had no idea there was a store in Green Acres.  It must be new. This store can be hit or miss but I usually find cute boots for Valley Stream Daughter.  It could be worth a look see.  I also heard that the mall was up for sale.

Kohl's
Green Acres Mall - Valley Stream
*The shoe department here has been totally hit or miss.  The last time I was there it was a definite miss.  It could be a hit for you.  Good luck.

Oceanside Bootery
2939 Long Beach Road - Oceanside
*Great customer service.  I love that I can just go in and say I'm looking for a sandal and while I browse the displays, the salesmen are in the back searching for every possible style they can find.  Makes me feel like a celeb.  They even have a TV in the showroom to keep the kiddies preoccupied while you browse.

Stride Rite
229 Merrick Road - Rockville Centre
*Great customer service.  They don't have a TV but there are a few toys sprinkled around the small showroom to preoccupy the kiddies while you shop.  They too will bring out every shoe possible to hopefully help you find what you're looking for.

LI Peekaboo Kids
513 Central Avenue - Cedarhurst
It's been awhile since I have been to this store and at the time there was minimal selection.  The owner at the time said they were in between shipments and seasons.  I guess I should go back to see what's in store.  Ha!

Nordstrom
Roosevelt Field Mall - Westbury
I know many of you are saying, "Nordstrom shoes cost waaaay too much!"  Some do cost ridiculous prices like Gucci loafers I saw the last time I was there....for an infant. But I have also found that many of the shoes available are comparable to prices found on Zappos.com.  So don't be skurred.  Go in and check out the shoes this weekend or wait for the next sale.

There are several athletic shoe stores in Green Acres and in Roosevelt Field Mall.  This post is to alert you to the locations I in which I have found quality shoes for children.

If you know of any other shoes stores not listed here, please share in the comment below and I'll add it to the blog post.

Happy shoes shopping!

  1. Two good shoe places are stride rite outlet at 1472 union tpke New Hyde Park also in that same shopping center is marshals shoe store - it has a nice selection for kids. The stride rite outlet has some really great prices but you have to be open minded since they don't carry all the same shoes as a regulat stride rite.

    1. You're very welcome. Your blog has been invaluable to me. I am new to valley stream- with twin 4 year olds and a soon to be 14 year old. Your site has been a life saver providing me with information that would have taken a very long time to find out otherwise. Glad I could make a contribution. Keep up the good work!
