MLK Day Celebrations & Events

On Monday, the nation will celebrate the birthday of Civil Rights leader and father of four children, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Read here to learn more about how the holiday came to be.  In addition, schools, libraries, banks, and federal buildings will be closed.  Instead of staying home to simply veg out, here is a list of area events taking place in honor of a man who fought selfishly until his early death.

Unfortunately there aren't any kid-friendly events or activities honoring Dr. King's legacy here in Valley Stream.  I trust the schools are teaching the children about him.  I did see it listed on my daughter's weekly report.  My dream is that next year someone will change that.  You have just over one year to make it happen.  It is possible.

This listing will be updated as additional information becomes available.
