To Do's: Beaches, Amusement Parks, Golf, Fishing, and NYC

The final weekend of Summer vacation is upon us, so what are your plans?  My weekend has somehow filled up with Sunday being the only quiet day.  I'm hoping to complete the grocery list portion of Valley Stream Daughter's school supply list and start labeling her items.  Oh joy.

Valley Stream 
Be sure to pay a visit to Hendrickson Park Pool Complex before closing day. Here in Valley Stream, Star Potential/Strong Side Studios will be hosting what I believe is its final youth concert of the summer today at 7:30 at the Village Bandshell.

Attractions
If you want to stay on the island, Dora the Explorer and Diego will be at White Post Farms today through September 3rd.  In addition, kids can enjoy the animal farm, petting zoo, bouncies, and playground.  Splish Splash is opening for the final weekend.  I have never been but I hear it's alot of fun. Adventureland isn't quite Cedar Point, but definitely an entertaining good time for the little ones.

Parks
Take a stroll through one of the island's parks including Valley Stream's very own Valley Stream State Park which is actually operated by the state.  Hmmm....you can also stop by one of my favorite parks for kids, Eisenhower Park and play for a bit at the Let All The Children Play Playground.  This park is handicap accessible which is the best part. I love that playground!  Another local favorite my kids love is Grant Park in Hewlett.  There are play areas for children based on age. You can also fish!

Beaches
After watching Jaws back in the early 80s, I haven't really been a fan of the beach.  However, when we vacation in the Caribbean we'll wade near the edge.  Honestly I prefer the pool, especially after the last ordeal we had at the beach.  My husband dropped the keys in the sand somewhere at Jones Beach two years ago and that was the last time we visited.  However, I hear that Long Beach is pretty nice and not as large as Jones.  Either way, stop by and soak up some rays at one of Long Island's beaches before closing day.

NYC
Take a trip into the city for one last hurrah before the kids bog you down with weekend activities.  Time Out Kids New York has some amazing events going on.  The Zoo, countless museums, South Street Seaport, and more.
