National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

After just over one week of school being back in session, I am so pleased to learn that Valley Stream Daughter's school has a Mileage Club where students are encouraged to walk during recess, and in community events.  I'm amazed that she would elect to forgo hanging on the monkey bars to walk around the school yard. I'm so proud.

On August 31st, the President signed a proclamation regarding National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, which is being observed this September. The President stressed that childhood obesity is a serious public health issue, and in making this proclamation, encouraged our country to commit ourselves to addressing this problem and to engage in healthy lifestyles. Check out all the ways you can play a role this September!

  2. Obesity is a real problem here in Texas. So much of the time it's either too hot or too cold to make active play outside fun. We've had to get really creative.

  3. I agree Patricia. I can't wait to hear how her experience is with this club. She likes to feel apart of things.

  4. Gale, I have family in Texas. I spent a summer there before my senior year in high school and really don't remember going outside very much. We went from the garage to our destination's parking garage. I hope your community is doing its best to combat this problem.
