Family Fun Day to Promote Adoption & Foster Care Awareness

Kaitlyn Seager
South High School Senior Kaitlyn Seager, an Ambassador Girl Scout of Nassau County, is making her mark on the community. This weekend, she will be working to complete the Gold Award, the highest award achievable for any Girl Scout. That alone is worth a high-5, don't you think?

When she was just six years old, she and her family travelled to China to receive her newly adopted sister, Kristen.  One could guess this is where her desire to make a difference in the lives of others began.

Seven months in the making, Family Fun Day is in honor of promoting and bringing foster care and adoption to the forefront of our minds. She will also purchase pajamas for children currently in the foster care system with donations and money left over after the expenses have been met. My family is no stranger to adoption. I have three adopted cousins and they have all brought something very unique to our lives. I am totally on board with this event and you should be as well.

According to her number one supporter, Kathleen, Kaitlyn's mom, the event will have various booths promoting adoption / foster care, educational and fun information as well as crafts for the kids to complete, family photographer, and snacks. We can't have a kid's event without snacks, right?

In addition to you and I supporting this awesome event, Nassau County Child Protective Services will be on hand to educate attendees on Foster care options. Aaron Britvan, Adoption Attorney and Chair of the New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations, and Chair of the Catholic Guardian Society and Home Bureau-Maternity Services will also be on hand to educate the audience on adoption practices.

Jessica Pinckney, Miss Long Island 2012
Volunteer Advocate, adoptee, and former Girl Scout Jessica Pinckney, newly crowned Miss Long Island 2012, will also be in attendance to greet the crowd. Who knows? You may even be able to wear her gorgeous crown.

Aside from being a Girl Scout member of Troop 1070 for last seven years, Kaitlyn is a catechist at Holy Name of Mary Religious Education Program, and an active volunteer at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre.  Her school activities include being a peer mediator where she mediates issues between students, is President of the school's chapter of Occupational Honor Society, is a member of Language Honor Society, and the Yearbook Committee.
