My Bad Experience at Angel Nails

It's been awhile since my last review of the product and services offered here in Valley Stream. There's good reason for that. I experienced the worst ever customer service from one of the 50 nail salons here in Valley Stream that I needed to find a good nail salon before totally ripping on the salon who treated me so unfairly.

A few weeks ago, I walked into Angel Nails on Rockaway Avenue and asked if they did UV gel manicures. I was also under time constraints and needed to be out by 3:30 p.m. to make it to an engagement. I was told yes they do UV gel and I could be out by the time requested. An hour into my service, the $70 service for my nails (I'll get to that in a moment), when a very loud woman walked in dressed in a black cocktail dress walked in. She needed one nail fixed or something and didn't have time to wait. She should have walked right back out because the salon was pretty busy at that time. Now mind you, I don't know why she felt her one, or $3 service, was more important than others but for some reason she did. After she waited 15 minutes, she stood up and reminded the entire salon that she really needed to be somewhere and needed to be taken care of. Soon, my nail stylist finished with my nails and escorted me over to the pedi chair where I just sat and waited with my feet in the pedi tub that she neglected to turn on. She then escorted the loud woman over to the mani table, where I just left mind you, to start her $3 nail repair. While this woman got serviced, I realized that no one was tending to me. I then asked if my pedi tub could be turned on so I could at least enjoy some bubble action while I waited. The nail stylist next to me didn't understand what I was asking, and apparently neither did anyone else. Now I'm really getting upset because I feel like I've been treated unfairly while the $3 woman gets serviced ahead of me so she can make her appointment. Uh...didn't I say I had somewhere to go as well? Now a bit peeved, I asked where my where my nail stylist was and was told that she is finished up a wax or something. Now I'm really ticked because not only was I brushed aside for a $3 service, but now I have to wait for another stylist to finish someone else. After realizing how poorly I was being treated AFTER they completed my $70 service, I decided to collect my belongings, pay my bill and walk out. Halfway to my car, I decided to go back into the salon and let the owner know how poorly I had been treated and that you will never see my face in their salon again. Ever. I should have asked for my tip back while I was there, but I didn't.

As for as the $70 service, I later wondered why I was charged so much. It turns out that UV gel alone is $35 and that UV gel color is another $35. It took me one visit to another salon to realize that one UV gel service is needed, not both. So, not only did Angel Nail treat me poorly but they neglected to tell me that I did not need both services. This makes me believe that they see me as a $ sign and not a customer/person. I will never step into that nail salon ever again.

In my search for a local nail salon, I have since visited Sunny nail salon also located on Rockaway Ave. right next to McDonalds. This salon is managed by a mother/daughter duo and sidekick, Lucky, the dog. It is a small salon but has a flat screen TV, nice comfy couch that you can sink down into while waiting...as long as you don't mind sharing it with Lucky on occasion. I have taken my daughter into the salon with me twice and they are so good with kids. A child's mani/pedi only costs $10 and the flower is free.

I have to say that I am not loyal to any one salon in the village so this is not to say that others not listed in this post are bad nail salons. I usually go to a location based on convenience depending on where I am that day or how much time I have. Sometimes I go to Rockville Centre and get a pedi while my daughter is in dance. If you have a favorite nail salon and/or stylist, let me know by commenting on this post.

Angel Nails, you get an F for customer service.

  1. Kimberly, I've experienced this all too much Asian nail salons. And I've stopped going to many just the same.

  2. Kimberly, I go to Sara Nails on Central Avenue and Lutz Drive. I have to say the salon is very clean and the customer service has never been an issue for me. If ever you are on this side of Valley Stream and need a really good mani/pedi, try Sara...
